Position Overview

Ingram Engineering is seeking a motivated, Entry-Level Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of residential, commercial, land development, infrastructure, and structural support projects throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

The ideal candidate enjoys both office and field work and has an interest in understanding how soil, rock, groundwater, and subsurface conditions influence successful construction. This role supports projects from initial site investigation through engineering recommendations and construction-phase support with extensive and valuable hands-on experience at several hallmarks in the projects’ tenure.

Responsibilities

  • Perform, participate, and oversee geotechnical investigations and site assessments such as soil borings, test pits, infiltration testing, and site reconnaissance.
  • Coordinate drilling programs and subsurface exploration activities including internal and subcontractor personnel.
  • Analyze soil, rock, groundwater, and subsurface conditions following ASTM and project requirements.
  • Review and interpret laboratory and field testing data.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, and recommendations under senior engineer supervision.
  • Under senior engineer supervision: develop foundation recommendations for projects; evaluate settlement, bearing capacity, earth pressures, and slope stability; support retaining wall and earthwork evaluation; support deep foundation and ground improvement evaluations including piles, micropiles, rammed aggregate piers, and compaction grouting.
  • Collaborate with structural engineers, contractors, developers, and design teams.
  • Review construction observations and provide field support during active projects.
  • Assist with construction observation and CMT/Special Inspections as necessary; support construction materials testing and special inspection efforts as needed.
  • Manage multiple projects while maintaining schedule and quality expectations; maintain project documentation, field notes, and communication records.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with preferred concentration in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
  • Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) certification or ability to obtain within 12 months preferred; licensed P.E. may also apply for role.
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with soil mechanics, foundation systems, and site development projects.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (required); engineering and geotechnical engineering software (preferred).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work both in the office and outdoors in varying field conditions in all seasons.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites throughout PA, NJ, DE, and MD.
